Case Study

Small company run from a home office

As a small supplier of personalised gifts and merchandise, this company delivers quality products to their customers according to tight schedules. Communication is essential to their business, both when responding to their customers and dealing with their suppliers.

This company approached Beaming for advice as their email was hosted in multiple locations which led to confusion and issues with orders. There were also problems with the reliability of their existing broadband, which they struggled with due to their lack of technical expertise. This company moved to Beaming’s high-quality broadband service and telephone line rental. Beaming was able to consolidate the email hosting and remove the communication issues from which the company was struggling. They also appreciated how Beaming responded quickly to their concerns in language they could understand and they continue to value how easy it is to contact Beaming. This company also uses Beaming’s own fax to email product as this allows them to store all communications electronically.

Business with multiple sites

As an insurance company with multiple sites across the south east, this SME has been growing rapidly over the last five years, and with some recent acquisitions, the managing director decided that he wished to consolidate a number of its offices, whilst maintaining the existing number of single user sites and home workers. A company-wide network would allow staff at the different sites and home workers to act as a virtual team.

As the company acquired other businesses, it found that each business had separate functions, such as finance, motor, home, commercial and travel. The company wanted to standardise these processes and be able to deal with overflow calls and tasks, including covering each other’s lunch hours where before sites would have closed for lunch. In addition to this, a significant proportion of the company’s administrative costs were going towards telecommunications, the nature of which varied from site to site. Some offices shared data, however at the new sites data was held locally, which made it difficult for others within the company to access their files.

Beaming installed high quality broadband across the sites, providing data connectivity across the company. We then provided a bespoke Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution allowing calls to be transferred between sites without incurring any call costs, whilst customers benefit from being seamlessly transferred between branches. Beaming used hosted Terminal Services to allow data to be shared securely across the company. Through the use of this technology, employees are no longer tied to specific locations and can operate flexibly. Staff can work from different offices and from home as required, something which became invaluable during a period of heavy snow. Furthermore, the employees can access their systems quickly, reliably and securely to support their customers with their insurance requirements, some of whom are in crisis when they call and require that instant reassurance and support. It is this personal service combined with expertise that is the key to this company’s success and it is also what they value in the technical support which they receive from Beaming.

Public Limited Company with large corporate clients

This business is an advertising company which sells its services to large high street brands. Beaming was contacted by its IT manager to supply voice and data services.

The IT manager required high availability but affordable data connectivity which supported the company’s own communication expertise. At first, ADSL2+ broadband was sufficient but as the business needs grew, Beaming were asked to supply a leased line to support this growth. The IT manager chose Beaming due to their technical reputation and has found the Beaming employees to be highly responsive to his requirements, easy to contact and highly knowledgeable. He knows they are people that can be trusted to do what they say they will do and as such they make his job easier. Their network is also highly reliable.

Retail company with a number of branches

This company has established a chain of twenty restaurants across London, specialising in eat in and takeaway sushi.

With the opening of a new site in an upmarket shopping centre, they needed a new broadband circuit within 48 hours and had been let down by their usual provider, who had offered to get the circuit running within a few weeks rather than days. Beaming were able to activate the broadband service within 24 hours of the company calling them, resulting in the company being able to open its new branch as planned. Beaming is now the Internet Service Provider of choice for this business.

Large corporate with tight timescales

This corporate client contacted Beaming after struggling with the lead times of its incumbent large telecoms provider, whose leased line was taking so long to be delivered that it was putting in danger the opening of a new undertaking.

This would without doubt have a negative impact on their business. Beaming used ADSL technology in a clever way and delivered an aggregated broadband solution from scratch within two days of being contacted by the client, which allowed the new operation to start running as planned. Once the fibre was delivered, the broadband solution was used as a backup line to the fibre and became part of the company’s disaster recovery plan. This client had been referred to Beaming by another of our customers and was highly impressed with what Beaming could do to resolve their problem.

Corporate headquarters with project requirement

The IT manager from a company with a high-street name contacted Beaming to help with their internet gateway. They wished their staff to be able to come to their headquarters in the Midlands and connect to the public internet with laptops and smart phones whilst on the company campus.

The data connection should be of a good enough quality to support real time video downloads and the Cisco router needed to be sent pre-configured. This circuit was to be delivered as part of a project and as such there were deadlines which Beaming needed to take into account. At first, it was considered that a super fast ADSL2+ service from Beaming would be adequate. However once it was installed, due to aluminium being used for telephone lines in that area, rather than the usual copper pairs, the speeds were not as high as expected. With deadlines looming, the IT manager asked Beaming if they could deliver an Ethernet fibre circuit within the timeframe.

There were also certain restrictions on when telecoms engineers could get into the comms room and access to site had to be carefully managed. Beaming rose to this challenge and delivered a National Ethernet circuit to the company headquarters, on time and within budget. The ADSL2+ service is now used as a backup line. The IT manager was glad he chose Beaming as they delivered when they said they would and due to their flexible way of working, they are easy to do business with.
